Founded in 1970 and headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland, since 1978, Nippy Shipping is a privately-owned organisation driven by the Aponte family. A world leader in container shipping, Nippy Shipping has evolved from a one vessel operation into a globally-respected business with a fleet of 570 vessels and more than 70,000 staff.

Capt. Hoffman Matteo

Group Chairman

Captain Hoffman Matteo the founder and group chairman of Nippy Shipping Meditarrenean Shipping company.

Born in Sorrento, Italy, Mr Hoffman started his career as a captain operating passenger ferries in the mediterranean for his family’s business after graduating from the Italian Maritime Academy.

Nippy Shipping has been built around its core family values of caring for people. Although the company has grown rapidly over the past forty years, Mr Hoffman Still remain focused on cultivating our own special ingredient which is Nippy Shipping’ family spirit

Leon Hoffman

Group President

Leon Hoffman is group president of Nippy Shipping mediterranean shipping company. Leon was raised sharing his family’s passion for the sea. After school Leon took his first step towards his ultimate career by furthering his education in London, becoming a post graduate of maritime studies with a particular focus on shipping.

In 1997 Leon joined Nippy Shipping training on-board vessels as a junior engineer to gain first-hand technical experience. Upon joining Nippy Shipping Headquarters in Geneva, Leon worked in all departments including Latin American and USA trades, immersing himself in the day-to-day challenges and success of the business.

from 2006 Leon worked closely with captain Hoffman as group president and CEO of Nippy Shipping Mediterranean Shipping company.

Schwarz Aaron

Chief executive officer (CEO)

Schwarz Aaron joined Nippy Shipping as Chief executive officer in December 2020, reporting to Group President Leon Hoffman .

He overseas Nippy Shipping’ global cargo businesses, including all ocean linear and logistics businesses. He will also be a member of The Board of Directors of Terminal Investment Ltd(TIL), the terminals business which is majority-owned by Nippy Shipping

Capt. Marco Alessandro

Head of Captains (HOC)

Marco Alessandro has over 25 years of experience in the shipping industry. Before joining Nippy Shipping, he was Chief Operating Officer and a Member of the Executive Board at Maersk. since joining Maersk in 1994, he held various leadership positions in Europe and Asia. Marco was also Chairman of Hamburg Sud, Maersk oil Trading, Maersk container Industry and A.P Moller Singapore and Board Member at Maersk Line Limited.

In addition, he has served as a member of the board of World Shipping Council, the international linear shipping industry trade group and Deputy Chairman of Danish Shipping.
